Greater Bremerton Area

THANK YOU!
Kitsap Great Give on April 24th
Was a Success Thanks to You!

What is Kitsap Great Give?

Kitsap Great Give is a 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Kitsap Community Foundation and its Presenting Partner, the United Way of Kitsap County, for the benefit of the greater Kitsap area.

How Does the Great Give Work?

For 24 hours on Tuesday, April 24, you can help us reach our goal of raising funds for programs and services to benefit women and girls in our community. The best part about Great Give is that every dollar you donate will be proportionally matched by the event sponsors. Essentially, that means your donation will yield more money to our organization than what you actually donate! A $100 donation could easily become $120 or more. It is the biggest 24-hour, online day of giving in Kitsap County.

May we count on your support?

Founded in 1944, Soroptimist International of Greater Bremerton Area is part of a global women's organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Soroptimists are determined to make a difference by improving women and girls’ access to education, as this is the most effective path to self-determination. The name, Soroptimist, means "best for women", and that's what we strive to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best. Using a three-pronged approach (awareness, advocacy and action), Soroptimists identify the special needs of the community including domestic violence, risk of homelessness, teenage dating violence, victims of abuse, and human trafficking/exploitation.

Program Outcomes

Each year, Bremerton Soroptimists provide education grants to local women with the "Live Your Dream" Education & Training Awards. These funds assist women who are the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them extra resources to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. These women have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence and/or drug and alcohol abuse. On March 8, 2018, Angel, a mom of three and an Olympic College student, received her award of $3,000 at a special luncheon in her honor. During the 2016-2017 club year, we awarded over $6,000 in education grants to 3 Kitsap women (pictured at right). All recipients used the awards to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.

The funds are not substantial when tuition cost is about $2,500 per quarter, but the belief and self esteem by having support from the community is empowering! Each one of these moms' stories tug at your heartstrings. They are incredibly brave and determined to improve the lives of their families by advancing in their education and even more encouraged by you giving during the Great Give to Bremerton Soroptimists to directly help these women to live their dreams.

We have a goal to help women and girls live their dreams. Each woman we assist with the funds raised to attend school are many steps closer to independence with marketable job skills, higher self esteem, and increased stability in their lives. Each donation makes it possible to offer a greater number of awards or higher monetary value of education grants to women, and to increase program services that benefit women and girls in our local community.

Where Will Your Donation Go?

Women and girls face specific obstacles solely due to their gender. Soroptimists help women and girls overcome these challenges through programs and projects leading to social and economic change. Read more about our program outcomes!
